Founded in 1924, the American Heart Association is the oldest academic organization with the greatest academic influence in the cardiovascular field across the world. Held in Anaheim, California USA, AHA Scientific Sessions 2017 attracted nearly 18,000 experts, scholars and researches from more than 100 countries worldwide.

At the symposium, Prof. Xia Yang was invited to give a speech entitled “Pregnancy and Inflammation Responses Leading to Eclampsia”. Postdoctor Liu Chen made an oral presentation entitled “Tissue Transglutaminase-mediated AT1 Receptor Posttranslational Modification Underlies Inflammatory Cytokine-induced Hypertension and Cardiac Dysfunction”. Doctor Peng Zhangzhe from the Nephrology Department of Xiangya Hospital and Doctor Huang Aji from the Department of Breast Surgery demonstrated their research results related to adenosine metabolism (the researches were completed under the guidance of Prof. Xia Yang) respectively - the influence of hypoxia caused by metabolic disorder of extracellular adenosine and DNA hypomethylation caused by metabolic disorder of intracellular adenosine on cells and organs and the corresponding pathogenesis, and reported their innovative research results in this respect, which were highly acclaimed by peers. They also won the International Early Career Investigator Award presented by the American Heart Association.
