On June 4, a delegation from Mahidol University, Thailand, led by Acting Vice President Associate Prof. Nopraenue Sajjarax Dhirathiti and President of Ramathibodi Hospital Prof. Piyamitr Sritara visited Xiangya Hospital and were warmly welcomed by Party Secretary of Xiangya Hospital Prof. Zhang Xin and other staff.

Director of the Department of Human Resources Prof. Peng Shifang, Director of the Department of Scientific Research Prof. Shen Lu, Director of the Department of Nursing Prof. Li Yinglan, Director of the Department of Neurosurgery Prof. Liu Zhixiong, Director of the Department of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Prof. Wang Dongsheng and Associate Research Fellow Wang Yang, and other staff attended the reception meeting. The meeting was chaired by Li Xuejun, Director of International Affairs Office of Xiangya Hospital.

At the meeting, Party Secretary of Xiangya Hospital Prof. Zhang Xin expressed his warm welcome to the delegation, and introduced the history and current situation of Xiangya Hospital as well as achievements made in recent years in medical care, medical education, scientific research and international exchanges. He hoped that Xiangya Hospital would have the opportunity to learn from and cooperate with Mahidol University with a long history to develop into a high-level international research hospital.

Acting Vice President of Mahidol University Associate Prof. Nopraenue Sajjarax Dhirathiti introduced the basic situation of Mahidol University and its affiliated Ramathibodi Hospital. She said the main purpose of their visit was to seek cooperation opportunity with Xiangya Hospital, especially in-depth cooperation in the fields of integrated Traditional Chinese and Western medicine, neuroscience, nurse training and scientific research.





After the meeting, the delegation visited the outpatient clinic and ward of the Department of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine as well as Ward 36 of the Department of Neurosurgery. The delegation members showed keen interest in acupuncture of TCM and instruments and equipment for stereotactic and other surgeries in the Department of Neurosurgery and exchanged views on the cooperation in relevant disciplines.

It’s learned that Mahidol University, founded in 1888, is one of the oldest institutions of higher education and one of the most prestigious universities in Thailand. At the very beginning it was named Siriraj Hospital, and was renamed with great honor in 1969 by H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej after his Royal Father, H.R.H Prince Mahidol of Songkla, who is widely known as the “Father of Modern Medicine and Public Health in Thailand”. At present, Mahidol University enjoys a great reputation in the fields of medicine, public health and natural sciences and ranks the first in terms of teaching and research in the only nationwide university ranking conducted by the Ministry of Education of Thailand. Members of the delegation mainly included the heads in charge of research, teaching and international relations of Mahidol University and Ramathibodi Hospital.
