On April 13, five famous Chinese and foreign pathologists, Prof. Roberto Miranda and Prof. Wang Sa (a 1984 graduate of XiangYa School of Medicine) from MD Anderson Cancer Center, Prof. Norma M. Quintanilla from Texas Children’s Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine, Prof. Liu Yanhui, Director of the Department of Pathology of Guangdong General Hospital and Chairman Designate of Tumor Pathology Committee of China Anti-cancer Association (a 1978 graduate of XiangYa School of Medicine), Prof. Yun Jingping, Director of Department of Pathology of Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center and standing member of Tumor Pathology Committee of China Anti-cancer Association (a 1980 graduate of XiangYa School of Medicine), gathered in Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, to share the latest progress in pathological diagnosis of lymphoma. More than 100 doctors from the Department of Pathology, Department of Hematology, Department of Oncology and other departments of major hospitals in Hunan province attended lectures. The lectures were chaired by Professor Zhou Jianhua, Director of the Department of Pathology of Xiangya Hospital.

First of all, Prof. Wang Sa described the key points of the diagnosis of a variety of intramedullary and extramedullary hematologic tumors such as chronic B lymphocytic leukemia / lymphoma, and introduced recent advances in the pathological diagnosis of such diseases, as well as some cautions. Prof. Roberto Miranda elaborated on the development and classification of Hodgkins lymphoma. Prof. Norma M. Quintanilla shared many wonderful cases in his work. Finally, Prof. Liu Yanhui (a 1978 graduate of XiangYa School of Medicine) and Prof. Yun Ping (a 1980 graduate of XiangYa School of Medicine) shared their experiences in the pathological diagnosis of inert B cell lymphoma and the application of immunohistochemistry in the diagnosis and treatment of tumors. During the lectures, the participants actively raised questions and communicated with the experts, creating a sound academic atmosphere, and all of them said they learned a lot from the lectures.

Through the wonderful academic lectures given by three outstanding alumni of Xiangya and two world-famous pathologists, we have learned the latest knowledge, the best experience and the most comprehensive summary. It will improve the lymphohematopoietic tumor diagnosis, treatment and prognosis evaluation level of physicians specialized in hematology and pathologists in Hunan and give them inspirations in scientific research.” Prof. Zhou Jianhua, Director of the Department of Pathology of Xiangya Hospital, said.
