Prof. Chandra Mohan from University of Houston is Appointed Distinguished Professor of Xiangya Hospital, Central South University

On March 7th, Xiangya Hospital, Central South University appointed Prof. Chandra Mohan from Baylor College of Medicine, University of Houston, Distinguished Professor and invited him to give an academic lecture. Prof. Chandra Mohan is the first distinguished professor Xiangya has appointed.

Prof. Zuo Xiaoxia briefly introduced Prof. Chandra Mohan. Prof. Chandra Mohan is currently a Cullen Distinguished Professor and Vice Chair, BME, Biol & Pharmacy, University of Houston and Adjunct Professor of Medicine, Baylor College of Medicine, UT Houston. Prof. Chandra Mohan received MBBS in medicine from National University of Singapore in 1984, MS in Computer Science from Boston University and PHD in immunology from Tufts University in 1995 and did his post-doctoral fellowship at University of Florida between 1995 and 1998. Prof. Chandra Mohan has long been committed to the research on the pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus, lupus nephritis and omics research on the biomarkers for autoimmune diseases and has made a series of breakthroughs. He is an internationally renowned authority in the field of systemic lupus erythematosus. In recent years Prof. Chandra Mohan has won honors such as Henry Kunkel Young Investigator Award and Elected Member of American Society for Clinical Investigation. From 2014 to 2017 he was appointed expert of the 1000 Talents Plan of China by Tongji University. Prof. Chandra Mohan is member of the Editorial Board of more than 10 world-famous periodicals including Autoimmunity, Arthritis Res Therapy, and Journal of Clinical Immunology. He has published more than 200 papers in Science, Immunity, J Clin Invest and other internationally well-known journals.

Prof. Chen Zihua presented the Appointment Letter and Hospital Badge to Prof. Chandra Mohan. Meanwhile, he extended warm welcome and sincere thanks to Prof. Chandra Mohan and introduced Xiangya Hospital’s overall development in talent training and discipline construction. He said that under the guidance of Prof. Chandra Mohan, the Department of Rheumatology and Immunology of Xiangya Hospital would make further progress in the future.

Prof. Chandra Mohan said he was very honored to join Xiangya Hospital, and in the future he would strengthen the close cooperation with Xiangya in jointly carrying out scientific and technological research.

After the appointment ceremony, Prof. Chandra Mohan delivered an academic lecture entitled “Proteomics Biomarkers for Autoimmune Diseases & Autoantibody Testing in Rheumatic Diseases” and provided guidance on research project application.
